GETTING STARTED

For optimal viewing and eyestrain avoidance, set your monitor's resolution to 600 x 800, and the color depth to "Thousands of Colors" or higher. This can be done under the Control Panel's Display Settings for Windows, or under Monitors & Sound for Macs.

Use the most recent (4.0 and above), frames-enabled browsers, such as Internet Explorer (recommended) or Netscape 4.   You can download these browsers for free by clicking on these links.

   BASIC SPECIAL EFFECTS

If your system has sound capability, turn up the volume! Music and sound effects play an integral part in this site, especially in the com-Motion Gallery.

Be sure JavaScript and Java are enabled for your browser. This can be done under Internet Options (in Internet Explorer) or Preferences (in Netscape).

   DIGITAL VIDEO REQUIREMENTS

Beware that the current videos featured in the com-Motion Gallery have large file sizes (a few MBs per clip). All videos here have been compressed, but file size continues to be a common issue for many digital videos that contain film footage, audio, animation, and digitized special effects.

For best results, download what you want to see from a fast connection. Otherwise, a slow modem download can take a long time - anywhere from 20 minutes to more than an hour. It also helps to have a fast computer. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are currently working on creating and collecting smaller-size clips for the Gallery.

The QuickTime Movie Player and Shockwave/Flash plug-ins are needed to view most of the motion exhibits. If you don't already have them, they can be downloaded for free. Both plug-ins are frequently used throughout the Web, so stocking up on them now couldn't hurt!
